SUPPORT WORLD EXCHANGE

We need core funding to support training courses and resources

We support communities and projects in the developing  world by sending them skilled volunteers and you can read about that in our web site.  To keep this work going, and to fund exciting new developments, we need additional financial resources.

The churches in the UK contribute almost £100,000 each year to our core funding, and volunteers match that figure from their own fundraising (normally £2-2.5 k per person).  This funding maintains our basic programmes.  New work cannot go further until we receive additional funding.  There are three key projects for which we are seeking support:

WORLDEXCHANGE PROJECTS

COURSES at Likhubula Outdoor Centre, Malawi

Located on the wonderful Mulanje Massif, rising to 3,000m, Likhubula is a little gem.  World Exchange are the lead partner for the local church in developing a youth and outdoor centre here.  Likhubula offers personal development opportunities to people who have had precious few in their lives.  Carers for people with HIV and orphans will benefit from 5 day courses based at Likhubula and taking advantage of the mountain environment.

We are asking for funds to meet the full cost of delivering training courses free of charge to the participants.  For around £50 per person we can deliver the course including accommodation, resources and transport. A week-long course for 20 people will cost about £1,000 and change their lives. This is an investment in the future of Malawi.

Sumanahalli, Leprosy and HIV Centre in India

With 65 acres of land in Bangalore, Sumanahalli has been a haven of refreshment and support for people living with leprosy for many years. Today it is redefining its role and caring for people with the "new leprosy" - HIV/AIDS. They have welcomed volunteers from World Exchange for over ten years now and we want to return that generosity by helping them fulfil their vocation to care for the excluded and rejected in Indian society.

English language for International Development

At St Colm's we have developed an excellent six-week course in English language for church and community leaders from the developing world.  The idea is to give them the confidence, and the linguistic ability, to represent themselves more effectively in their dealings with overseas partners and donors.  Our pilot course for women who had been through violence or genocide was an outstanding success, and was funded by Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland.  It costs £3,000 per person for the whole package of expert tuition, personal counseling, training and resources and full board at St Colm's for six weeks.

GIVE WISELY

  • Gift Aid is the most efficient way of giving because we can reclaim the basic rate tax you have already paid. This is on top of the sum you choose to give, and so it makes your charitable £ work even harder. If you are a higher rate taxpayer you can reclaim the additional 18% by ticking the relevany box on your Self Assessment Form and entering our identification code, which is NAJ67HG.  ..and thank you.
  • Share Giving is a new way for you give to any charity, [and we hope it will be us!], in a tax-efficient and creative manner.  Click on the link and find out more.  If you have benefited from a windfall of shares why not share your good fortune with some of our partners through share-giving to World Exchange? You will obtain relief from CGT on any gain on the shares donated AND reduce your taxable income by the full value of the shares you donate.
  • Trusts and Foundations have generously supported our work recently and enabled new projects to begin which would have been outwith our reach.
  • Legacies we welcome legacies and if you wish Bobby will discuss this with you when you are making your will.
  • Churches provide our core funding and without them we would not be able to offer the level we service we currently provide for volunteers and host projects.

We would love to hear from you if you think you can support World Exchange or St Colm's in any way.
